NSA ADELAIDE EVENING BRANCH - PRESIDENTS REPORT 2016/17 - ROGER BLACKEBY

In order to keep this report brief I could easily say “ refer to previous years.” This is an indication of member’s support for the committee and programmes which of course could not be successfully achieved without the suggestions & support from members.

Over the last 10 years we have settled on a routine of monthly Dinner Meetings with top class guest speakers, Strollers ( or now perhaps “Strugglers” ) walks associated with lunch or afternoon tea,  other social outings including theatre, lawn bowls, tenpin bowling, croquet and visits to other interesting venues such as Clipper Ship, City of Adelaide, Carrick Hill and  the new housing development at Bowden.

My job has been made easy by the contribution of all your committee members not just performing the duties for which they were directly responsible but going the “second mile” in accepting additional tasks such as David updating and recording all member’s names, addresses, telephone and email details, and ensuring that all members had a name tag to wear at dinner meetings, Doris for updating our website - (nsaeveningbranchsa.org.au) – check it out sometime- but she needs up to date information and news to make the site worthwhile. Of course our secretary, Jan and treasurer, Kathryn go about their work quietly in the background and keep us on the straight & narrow. Elaine takes the responsibility for organising our theatre outings.

I know that it is dangerous “naming names” because worthy people often get overlooked, but I also thank Hilary for coordinating our Strollers Group which meets monthly for most of the year and for arranging the Christmas Picnic get together.

I am pleased to report that 20 of our members attended the Zone Luncheon at The Marche Club at Klemzig which also was attended by the National President and various other National Office Bearers. This was an excellent show of support from our members. Three of our members also represented our Branch at the annual zone conference which was coordinated by the Brighton Branch. ( Ed represented Brighton as its President and not as “one of us !”

During the year Julia and I attended the bi-monthly Zone General Meetings & I represented Evening Branch at the formation meeting for a new branch at Kensington which appears will lead to formation of a new Branch.

I sadly acknowledge the recent death of Peter Cook who was an inaugural member of our branch, a   member of Brighton and also a life member of NSA. We all enjoyed Peter’s participation in all of our functions and in particular remember him coordinating our weekend away in the Barossa.

Vale Peter and I know that the thoughts and prayers of our members are with Maureen at this time.

My best wishes to your new committee for 2017/18 and I know that you will continue to support them in their endeavours to provide you with an interesting  and varied  program for the next 12 months.

Roger Blackeby -  President
